Servo Skull Collector - finished

Finished the Servo Skull Collector tonight. A fun and hectic 3 hours painting session.

Yesterday I decided to persue a slightly monocrome look by aiming to work yellow into most parts of the model. Thus I had to change to shield which I had just enjoyed painting wiht the white/red pattern of checks... But I am quite pleased with the new look. I haven't painted a lots of models using a monocrome palette so this was both fun and challenging.

  1. Beautiful work...
It was well worth the wait...
I'm looking forward to whatever you plan to work on next.

  2. I really like the way you treated the sensor eyes in the skulls. They were so haunting in the moody pic you post a few days ago, I was afraid you would lose that with more detailing. Very nice piece.

  3. Fantastic work, as expected! The concept of the model is so dark and disturbing and the paintjob is flawless!

  4. I really wish I could see this model in person. It's hard to tell in the pictures what effect bringing more yellow into the figure has done. I think I might prefer it's earlier incarnation with less yellow. One thing I liked about the earlier shots was the pale spots here and there. but..without seeing it in person, I really can't say for sure whether that is the case

Beautiful work as always JRN. THanks so much for sharing this with us!

  5. Mono-yellow was unexpected, but lovely to see. Seriously like the different shades throughout. (Would love a few more views of this fig - rear, etc?)

  6. The model acts very different to types of lighting. The cold pale spots are still there. I will have to do a few studio-style photos to show in "real" lighting and also to present a few more angles.

The yellow vs red on the shield is still being debated in my mind, but for now I am settleing for yellow until I decide where he has his alligences. Is he following Inquisitor Felsh, is he a renegade, or does he indeed operate on his own as a dedicated hermit in the fields of bones.

  7. really really nice. giving me inspiration to create my own inquisitor retinue. Will you be entering them for GD?

  8. No current GD plans. But the retinue or just some of the models might prove to be useful material for an interesting entry. Right now the plan is to work on a model at the time and just enjoy the ride.

  9. Quite creepy and the mood lighting is a great touch. It's good to compare these to all the stages you photographed. Lovely work :)

  10. How many hours do you think you spent overall (not counting conversion!) painting?

  11. @ Minitrol: Well, counting back though my posts I believe the painting time is only something like 11 hours.
